Khmer Wood Design: Bespoke Furniture and Statement Tables in Phnom Penh
At Khmer Wood Design, we make furniture that people ask about. Every piece is designed and handcrafted in Phnom Penh by skilled Cambodian craftsmen, using solid and reclaimed timber sourced in this country wherever the country can supply it. We do not run a production line. We do not import container loads of factory furniture. We build to order, one piece at a time, for villas, condos, hotels, bars, boardrooms and homes across Cambodia.
What We Make: Statement Pieces
That might be an illuminated infinity table that creates a bottomless tunnel of light, drawing every eye in the room. It might be an epoxy river table, where hand-poured resin meets Cambodian hardwood in a pattern that will never be repeated. It might be a dining table, a coffee table, a conference table or a full architectural installation. Whatever the piece, the approach is the same: we design it for your room, not for a catalogue, and we build it to last for decades.
One of a Kind, by Design
What makes a Khmer Wood Design piece different is everything that is not visible. Each one carries a serial number, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and an entry in our permanent public register with the date it was completed. An NFC chip embedded inside the piece means you can tap your phone against it and see the full history: who made it, when, from what materials, and who has owned it since. There is also a second, discreet maker's mark known only to the maker and the owner. Copies can replicate the shape and the glow. They cannot replicate provenance.
Cambodian Timber, Honestly Sourced
We are proud of the materials we work with, and we are honest about them. Our rubberwood guide explains why a plantation hardwood can be genuinely sustainable. Our article on acacia covers one of Cambodia's best fast-growing furniture timbers. We also work with teak, mango wood and eucalyptus for different applications and price points. If you want to understand the difference between a beautiful, legal timber and an endangered one, read our guide to Neang Nuon — the rosewood we refuse to sell. Every wood has strengths and limitations, and we will tell you both.
Cheap Furniture or an Heirloom?
The alternative to handmade is not cheaper. It is shorter. A factory-made table from an import warehouse will look fine for a year or two, then the veneer lifts, the finish dulls, and the joints loosen. It is designed to a price point, not to survive decades. A hardwood piece improves with age the way a good wine does. The grain deepens, the surface takes on a patina, and the timber becomes more stable as it acclimatises to your home. You buy once, and then you stop buying. That is the difference between a purchase and an investment.
The Khmer Wood Design Guarantee
Every piece we sell is covered by the Khmer Wood Design Guarantee, which covers authenticity, craftsmanship, structure and electrical components. If something fails, we come to you rather than asking you to ship a table back to us. Ownership can be transferred to a new owner free of charge, so a documented piece holds its resale value in a way that anonymous furniture never will. Ask any other furniture maker in Cambodia what their guarantee covers. Ask them whether their pieces are numbered, recorded or verifiable. You will see the difference very quickly.
A Workshop, Not a Furniture Shop
Most people searching for a furniture store or a furniture shop in Phnom Penh are hoping to walk in, look around, and take something home the same day. We understand that, and we would rather be upfront: that is not what we do. We have no showroom floor stacked with ready-made pieces, because we do not build furniture speculatively and hope someone buys it. Every piece is commissioned by one client, for one room, and built to fit that space.
That has consequences worth understanding before you decide. It takes longer — usually four to twelve weeks depending on the piece. It costs more than a shop-bought import. In return, you are not choosing from what is left over. You are not settling for something that almost fits, in a finish that is almost right. You are not buying a piece that was made in a factory in another country for nobody in particular.
We do welcome visitors to our Phnom Penh workshop by appointment. If you would like to see the timbers, feel the finishes and discuss a commission in person, get in touch and we will arrange a time. Bring photographs of the room, rough measurements, and any ideas you have. Most clients find one conversation is worth more than an afternoon walking around furniture shops.
How a Commission Works
Commissioning a piece is simpler than most people expect, and it starts with a conversation rather than a catalogue. We begin by understanding the space, the purpose and the mood you want to create. Bring us photographs of the room, rough measurements, and any ideas you have. If you are working with an interior designer or architect, we are happy to work alongside them. If you are starting from nothing, that is fine too — most of our clients do.
From there we prepare a design and a written quote. You will see the proposed dimensions, the timber we recommend, the finish options and the lighting specification where relevant, along with a clear price. There is no obligation at this stage. If you want to change the size, the wood or the finish, we revise the design until it is right.
Production begins once you are happy with the design and the deposit is paid. We use a 50% deposit to start, with the balance due on delivery. A standard table takes four to eight weeks. Larger architectural pieces or complex commissions can take longer, and we will tell you the timeline upfront rather than promising something we cannot deliver. You will receive progress updates and photographs as the piece takes shape.
When the piece is finished, we deliver and install it ourselves. We do not hand it to a courier and hope for the best. We bring it into your home or venue, position it, connect the lighting if applicable, and walk you through the care and maintenance. You receive your numbered certificate of authenticity, your piece is entered into our permanent register, and your NFC passport is activated. The entire process is designed to be personal, unhurried and transparent.
Who We Work With
We build for anyone who wants furniture that says something. That includes homeowners furnishing a villa, a condo or a family house who want a centrepiece rather than another import. It includes boutique hotels, guesthouses and resorts looking for pieces that guests photograph and remember. It includes bars, sky bars, restaurants, lounges and KTVs where the furniture is part of the experience, not just the seating.
We also work with businesses: boardrooms, reception areas, law firms, corporate offices and showrooms that need to signal quality to everyone who walks through the door. We work with interior designers and architects who need a maker they can trust to execute their vision precisely, and with developers fitting out villas, condominiums and commercial projects at scale.
If you are not sure whether your project fits, get in touch. We have built infinity tables for private homes, river tables for restaurants, conference tables for offices, and full architectural installations for hotels. If it is made of wood and it needs to be remarkable, it is probably something we can help with.

The Brick Interior
There is something about brick that makes a room feel permanent. It is the material of old warehouses, of cellars and underground bars, of buildings that have stood for a hundred years. Now imagine it inside your table — a wall of brick receding into the distance, lit from above, growing smaller and smaller until it disappears. The effect is almost hypnotic. It feels like looking down a corridor that has no end, in a building that was never finished.
We build this interior from hand-cast brick faces, sized and finished to suit the scale of your table. The brick can be red, dark-fired, aged, whitewashed or glazed. The mortar can be clean or weathered. The lighting can be warm and soft, like a cellar, or cold and industrial, like a tunnel under a city. From there, we add the details that bring it to life.
A rope ladder descending into the dark. A wooden ladder leaning against one wall, as if someone has just climbed down and left it there. Iron rings bolted into the brickwork. Rusted pipes running along the ceiling. A small barred window with light behind it. A single torch bracket, unlit or burning, depending on the mood you want. A wooden door at the far end that never gets closer, no matter how long you look. Each detail adds depth and story — and each one repeats endlessly into the vanishing point.
This is the interior for a bar, a KTV room, a whisky cellar, or a boardroom that wants to feel like a private vault. It is also the interior for a home where the dining table is the centrepiece and the conversation needs a starting point. Every Nemora brick interior is built to your brief. If you have a building you love — a warehouse, a temple, a colonial shophouse — we can recreate its brickwork inside your table. The Brick Interior

The Universe & Starry Night Interior
There is a particular kind of silence that comes over people when they look into a night sky. Something older than language. Something that makes a person feel small in the best possible way. Now imagine that feeling contained inside your table — a field of stars falling away from you, deeper and deeper, until the light runs out and there is only darkness. That is the universe interior. It is the most requested of all our designs, and the one that never fails to stop a room.
We build it from layers of precision mirror, tinted resin, and fibre-optic or LED light. The stars are set at different depths and different brightnesses, so the eye cannot resolve them into a single flat plane. Some are blue, some gold, some almost red, mimicking the real spectrum of a night sky. We can add a soft nebula of colour at the centre, a pale band like the Milky Way, or a single bright planet that draws the eye. The lighting is dimmable, so the table can glow gently during dinner and burn brighter when the room empties out.
Beyond the pure starfield, we can build almost anything cosmic. A planet hanging in the void, ringed and tilted. A slow spiral galaxy seen from above. A moon landing. A constellation from a specific night — the sky over your wedding, your child's birth, the day you opened your business. This last option is one of the most personal pieces we make, and we can source the exact star positions for any date and location on earth. It is a small detail that turns a beautiful object into a family heirloom.
This is the interior for dreamers, scientists, romantics, and anyone who has ever stood outside at night and forgotten to go back in. It suits a private dining room, a bedroom, a study, and — perhaps more than any other interior we offer — a boardroom that wants to feel expansive rather than merely expensive. It suits dark timbers best: black-stained acacia, dark teak, or reclaimed Cambodian hardwood with a deep stain that lets the light do the work. In a lighter timber, the effect softens and becomes more playful. Both are beautiful. We will show you samples of each before you decide.

The Money & Bitcoin Interior
Wealth has always been displayed. In some eras it was gold, in others it was land, and in ours it is often digital — numbers on a screen that most people will never actually see. That is part of what makes this interior so compelling. It takes the abstract and the invisible and makes them physical, glowing, and impossible to ignore. A wall of banknotes receding into the distance. A vault of gold bars. A circuit board lit from within, with a single Bitcoin symbol burning at the centre. These are tables for people who have built something and are not shy about it.
For the classic wealth expression, we build interiors from stacked banknotes — US dollars, riel, or a mix — arranged so the eye sees an endless vault. Add gold bars if the brief calls for it, or coins spilling across the floor of the scene. For something more restrained, we place a single ingot under glass. For the crypto client, the interior is built from mirror-printed circuit boards, fibre-optic traces, and glowing nodes, with a Bitcoin, Ethereum, or custom token symbol floating at the vanishing point. We can engrave a specific wallet address, a wallet QR code, or the ticker of a token you hold. A table that quietly contains the thing you believe in is a conversation piece at a different level.
This interior suits boardrooms, private offices, executive lounges, and homes where ambition is part of the architecture. It suits darker timbers best — a black-stained acacia or a deep teak that lets the gold and the glow do the work. For something warmer and more unexpected, a reclaimed Cambodian hardwood with visible grain under a gold-toned interior is genuinely stunning.
Every Nemora is built to your brief. If the scene you want is not on this list, describe it. If it can be imagined, we can almost certainly build it.

TThe Nature Interior
Water is the hardest thing to hold still. It moves, it reflects, it changes colour with the light. That is exactly what makes it such a powerful infinity interior — because when you capture a river or an ocean inside a table, you are capturing something that never stops moving in real life, frozen into an endless loop that the eye cannot resolve. The effect is hypnotic in a way that static scenes are not. People lean in. They trace the water with their finger. They ask how it is done.
We build oceans from layered resin in deep blues and greens, with a surface that suggests swell and movement rather than a flat plane. Some clients want the deep ocean — dark, still, almost black at the bottom. Others want a tropical reef, bright and alive with coral and fish suspended in clear blue. We build rivers as flowing bands of resin through timber, with the grain of the wood acting as the banks, and stones or pebbles cast into the resin for realism. Jungles are built from layered foliage, ferns and dappled light, so deep you feel you could walk into them. And the sky — open, clouded, or lit by a setting sun — brings a sense of horizon into a room that has none.
The sky is where this interior becomes something else entirely. A sky infinity panel mounted on a ceiling turns a bedroom, a bathroom, a spa, or a hotel suite into a place with no roof. You lie back and the ceiling opens. Clouds drift away from you into depth. Stars appear at the edges. It is the same engineering as a table, inverted, and it is one of the most striking installations we can build. If you have a ceiling you would like to disappear, tell us.
These interiors suit almost any timber, because the scene does the work. A pale rubberwood or mango wood frame keeps the piece light and lets the water colours dominate. A dark teak or acacia frame makes the water glow like something lit from beneath. Both work. We will show you samples of each before you decide.

The Wine Cellar Interior
There is a particular pleasure in a cellar. The cool air, the low light, the rows of bottles standing shoulder to shoulder in the dark, each one waiting for its moment. It is a place of patience and quiet wealth. Now imagine that entire cellar inside your table — a corridor of bottles receding into the distance, lit from above, growing smaller and smaller until the light gives out. It is the interior we build most often for people who entertain, and it never fails to start a conversation before the first glass is poured.
We build the wine cellar from miniature bottles, hand-finished and set into receding racks. The racks themselves can be dark timber, brick, stone or brushed metal, depending on the mood you want. The lighting is the key. A warm amber glow from above suggests candlelight and old cellars. A cooler white light reads as a modern temperature-controlled vault. Some clients ask for a single bottle to be spotlit, as if it is the one that matters. Others want the whole corridor glowing evenly. We can also build in detail that makes people look twice — a barrel in the corner, a tasting table at the far end, a stone archway framing the vanishing point, a wine glass sitting on a ledge.
For the serious collector, we can go further. If you have a bottle that matters — a first growth, an anniversary vintage, a wine from a year that means something to your family — we can recreate it inside the table, label and all. For restaurants, we can build an interior around your own wine list. For a private client, we can set the scene to match the cellar you actually own, so the table becomes a miniature of the room it sits in. And for clients who simply love wine without collecting it, the standard cellar corridor is beautiful on its own — deep, warm, and endlessly inviting.
This interior is made for people who entertain. It suits a dining room above all, but it also works in a bar, a private members' club, a restaurant, a hotel lounge, or a tasting room. It suits dark timber best — a deep-stained teak or a black-stained acacia, which lets the amber light do all the work. For something warmer, a reclaimed Cambodian hardwood with visible grain under a honey-toned interior gives a completely different feel — rustic rather than refined. Both are beautiful. We will show you samples before you choose.
